India has one of the world's fastest-growing economies, which has led to a huge rise in the country's energy needs. It is now necessary for the nation to achieve complete energy independence. This calls for multifaceted activities on several fronts, including energy production, energy efficiency, and well-thought-out policy changes. Currently, coal is used to meet about 55% of India's energy needs. This resource cannot be replenished. From 249 million tonnes in 2019-20 to roughly 218 million tonnes in 2022-2023, coal imports have significantly decreased. This was made feasible by a rise in domestic output, which reached an estimated 893 million tonnes in 2022-2023. By 25 or 26, the administration wants to expand this by 1.3 billion tonnes.
