yawning, i turn on the television, patiently waiting for conner to wake up.

the tv is on a sports news channel, and flashes with a few pictures.

i recognize a face.

conners face.

i sit still, my heart beating faster by the second, my eyes glued to the screen.

i hear steps come from behind the couch and a quiet yawn, but i don't bother turning to face the man that betrayed me.

"conner, who are you?" i ask.

when conner met lydia,
she was not the woman he expected.

meeting her on a dating site,
with his full name on display,
he expected her to recognize him.

she didn't know a thing about hockey,
and when conner found that out,
he made it his life mission to hide his identity.

because after all, she was his safe space.
his space away from the fame, and the pressure
