Fiona Fredrick is by the age of 17 and soon has the responsibility of taking care of her younger brother, Max who is only aged 11. Her and her family live on a farm in an extremely poor and peasant sort of village, where there is hardly any money yet way too many crops. After her mother passed away, Fiona is left a huge rolling part. She has to do all the hard work on her farm and has to look after Max all on her own.
