Chapter One

When war returns to Brittania and closes her place of employment, Juniper Scrivens finds a new situation in the household of the taciturn Mr. Henry Hargrave. He is a handsome yet intimidating man who bears his own scars from the last magical war, but June cannot help how she is drawn to him, and he challenges convention when he begins to teach the curious young woman magic. However, there are forces both inside and outside the walls of Dredmour Estate that would see the pair torn apart, and June must come to decide if her purpose resides there with Mr. Hargrave, or if a greater calling waits for her in a world torn apart by war.
