Description
Based on the world's biggest abduction. 16-year-old Zahra dreams of pursuing a college degree in order to become a medical doctor and make the village see her as an equal to her younger brother, to men. Despite it is the year 2014, the village's misogynist traditions are the chains holding her to the wall. The council of elders says it is an abomination for a woman to stand as tall as men - both literally and figuratively - and so after high school, girls should prepare themselves for marriage. But Zahra believes she is more than just another man's child-bearing toy. One night, as she is attempting to read her way into a scholarship, a terrorist group storms the village, torches the school to the ground, and kidnaps the girls. This is the moment she realizes there is a much bigger, darker world than her village. Now, Zahra no longer wants to be a medical doctor. She dreams of freedom.
