They told her that she was talented. That she could make it if she worked hard enough. They told her to do whatever it takes. Just to get her foot in the door, make some connections in the industry.

So she did what they said. She got a job selling merchandise for an indie rock band, just crossing the threshold into stardom. Not quite the glamorous start that she'd envisioned, but it's better than nothing. They made it seem like it was all about connections, so she makes them.

What they didn't tell her is just how much it'd take after that.
