My eyes meet Connall's and I can see the hopelessness there. He attempts a smile upon seeing my face and I can feel the bile lining my stomach. My fingernails dig into the palms of my hands to stop myself from giving anything away. With my eyes meeting his, I swear on the Bible that I won't tell a single lie. But Lord knows this isn't the only promise I've broken, and I doubt it will be the last. I know Connall is innocent. At least innocent of the crime he's being blamed for. But he's still guilty of more than he thinks I know or understand. He was just too stupid to realize that his apologies had not absolved him of what he's done. Grey meets Brown and I think he finally realizes that I'm not here to stop the ax from falling on his neck. I'm here to swing it.
