Description

March 18, 2023 The time was 10:00 AM, and the 71st running of the Mobile 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring was only moments away. Across the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship grid, you could feel the nerves of the teams on the pit lane. This is one of the biggest races of the IMSA season, round two down in Florida. As 10:05 AM rolled around, the engines of the 53-car grid roared to life to begin the warm-up laps. Aboard the #6 Porsche 963 in the GTP class, Mathieu Jaminet was the driver to start the race off. On pit road sat the third driver for the #6, Daniel Apple, watching on as the grid came past to start the race. Lap 1, so it begins. In the pit box behind the #6 Porsche sat the second driver of the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06, Lacey Morton. One of the fastest drivers IMSA has ever seen. She was very intelligent, had pace, and knew the ARX-06 like no one else. Lap 319, less then 15 minutes now. Both Apple and Morton are in their respective cars. The safety car was coming in for the final sprint to the finish. Disaster was inevitable.
