The last several years has seen an explosive growth in non-surgical rejuvenation techniques. While chemical peels have been around for thousands of years, it is only recently that lasers and light sources have become the gold standard for rejuvenating the skin. Chemical peels are still used, and have their place, but the variable results they can produce have caused them to fall out of favor. Lasers and light sources can have dramatic effects in reducing the discoloration and age spots of sun damaged and aged skin. However, a major component of aging, whether because of weight loss, chronic sun exposure, or genetics, is the volume loss in the tissue beneath the skin. This causes the flattened cheeks, sagging jowls, and under-eye hollows commonly seen in the ageing face. In the hands, this manifests as thin, bony hands and prominent blood vessels. All to often the hands give away the person's age. Indeed, for many people the hands often appear older than the person is.
