The Assurance is paradise. At least, that's what it seems like to Vaeda who remains on the now dead planet of Earth. For the past three years, she and her best friend Kage have grown used to struggling to find food, and fighting off other scavengers that want to take the supplies they've stored up.

When it seems all hope is lost, the Avanians, aliens from another planet step in and offer to give refuge to the humans. The Avanians only ask one thing, that human women become surrogates for the infertile Avanian women. It seems an easy compromise, only, it turns out that paradise is not all that it seems as there is a dark secret that the Avanians are hiding.
