Humanity came from Dust.

Now, as mankind continues to be pushed to the brink of extinction by the Creatures of Grimm, a new generation of warriors enter Beacon Academy to become the new defenders of the world of Remnant. There's Ruby Rose, young and plucky, Pyrrha Nikos, finest of her peers, and you, armed with ancient weapons named the Silverpieces, and taught how to fight by one of the finest warriors in the world.

That isn't to say things will be easy: Dealing with your own teammates, RWBY, and JNPR is a struggle all by itself, more deadly to you than any Grimm beast. And of course, as you live the life of a student, forces behind the scenes set events into motion which threaten the world, just as it stands on the edge of destruction.
