It' the summer of 1983, and Theodore Blood has no motivation to write his next book. His cousin Oliver who is a doctoral student, decides to bring his cousin with him to his internship in Lombardy, Italy.

Where Theodore meets 17 year old Elio Perlman, who at first only glanced at Theodore in curiousity, only to make a move on the 23 year old later on as time passby.

Will their love last? Or will Theodore leave Elio heartbroken in the end?
