Princesses Twilight Sparkle and Luster Dawn want to begin Tirek's reformation processes, when a new, huge problem appears - a rich and influential pegasus named Iris Nephele, who had been elected as mayor of Cloudsdale convinces the citizens that their city is powerful enough to rebel and become an independent nation. How can Twilight put down the rebellion? Tierk claims he has a solution. As Luster learns details about Tirek's complicated past and his home, she realizes that his brother's connection to the Elements of Harmony is more significant than anypony ever realized. Excerpt: The bearer of the voice stepped out of the shadows. It was a tall, old and greyed Gargoyle. He had a satin cape with fur lining, a golden crown peppered with sapphires, and a leather belt with gold studs on it. The gargoyle had yellow eyes and a snout. Two large, red, bat-like wings poked out from under his cape. This was undoubtedly King Scorpan. "He holds the Staff of Sacanas," Saturn whispered to Luster, but she didn't hear him. She was mesmerized by the monster king, who did in fact hold the Staff of Sacanas. Luster Dawn bowed respectfully, and her friends did the same. "Greetings, King Scorpan," Luster Dawn said. "We are deeply honored to be in your presence." "Please, no formalities," King Scorpan laughed. "I'm just happy to have company for once."
