meredith is a 23 year old English teacher. her best friend is cristina who is another teacher for a different group of students. she is single and lives alone.

Derek is a 17 year old student. he doesn't have too many friends, just his neighbour, Mark.. and his mom. he's not too clever but there is one class he does concentrate in.. English, and its no real shock that it is not because he likes the subject, rather the girl who teaches it..
