Foreword

"You really have forgotten your place!"

I looked up from my documents. Tasheyo was standing over me, trembling with fury.

"I beg your pardon?"

He waved his hand aside and continued to glare at me.

"Don't act stupid. You insulted my mistress when she was simply walking down the hall! You stopped her and proceeded to yell at her how she steals married men and how you can make love to any man you meet, and not just me!"

I study Tasheyo. His mistress was obviously a liar. At least I know that now.

I put down my files and put my fingertips together to stare Tasheyo in the eye.

"I said none of those things." I replied calmly.

Tasheyo rolled his eyes then crossed his arms.

"Are you saying Periclene is a liar?"

I nodded. "If it means that what she said is not true, then yes."

My husband shook his head.

"You're letting your jealousy get the best of you. But don't worry." He shook a piece of paper in my face. "I have the approval for our divorce and an appointment to meet with High Priest Holioki. Then you can be put on the streets where you belong."

I was bursting to tell him that where he assumed where I would be put was where he would be put. When he divorced me, he would be demoted to Lord, and have to go back to his family's home, but instead of saying this, I merely pretended to look fearful.

He grinned at my expression.

"Not so cocky now, are you? I guess you should've thought of that before you insulted someone of my name."

He whirled around and stormed out of my office.
