Seven years ago the bio-terrorists (conduits) in Seattle, Washington escaped from their jail, Curdon Cay. Marina is fascinated with these conduits, or people with unique powers. But her mother had always told her to stay away from them and to never think that any of them could be kind-hearted. Marina thought everyone had a sweeter, nicer side to them so her fascination never died. Especially when Lana came around.
