The guardians are actually immortals who protect the world.

Pitch is actually an immortal, along with Tempest and Hans and a bunch of others who call themselves the Darklings.

Jack sacrificed himself to destroy the guardians' base and the Darklings along with it.

But unfortunately, the story isn't over yet. It's not that easy to kill an immortal...
