Maxwell Sanford was only 19 when he was turned into a vampire in 1943.

Gwen goes to Forks, WA to live with her estranged father and half-brother and to find out why she can shift. Max was 'adopted' by Carlisle Cullen in 1950 and their coven eventually moves to Forks in 2003.

When Gwen imprints on Max... well, no one is happy about it, except for Maxwell. All he wants is to have a mate but Gwen refuses to let herself love again.
