On medical leave due to the genetic changes begun by an ancient plan embedded in the Great Crystal, Sabrina Devon and her fiancé negotiate not only their relationship but also planetary politics. Queen Maratobia gives birth to a daughter with powerful telepathic abilities who cannot be raised among non-telepaths, and after giving her up to a foster family, Mara needs time to recover.
