Elizabeth Ward is a descendent of Thomas J. Ward, the best Spook of his time. Taught by Mr. Gregory, Tom knows anything and almost everything about the creatures of the dark, with him being a seventh son of a seventh son, and being born of the Lamia witch of old folklore and fables; said she was killed by her own daughters. Elizabeth is a seventh of many sevenths. She happens to a seventh daughter, more powerful than a seventh son. She wants to become the apprentice of William Derekson, but he won't take her because of her being a woman. She must prove to him that she can be the best Spook of the modern world, even if it means she might even end up losing her life.
