Prologue

"No, that was not a relationship, it was just a one-sided thing, well... I", his trembling hands knead the inner wrist, rubbing and scraping the skin muddled under his cuffs, the scars hidden beneath.

"The idea of someone loving me, it was... it blinded me, and I intentionally overlooked the signs, I
mean the whole thing was too good to be real, so beautiful and..."

What follows the dreadful silence is a murmur "And I was so happy". He tries to cover up but they don't see the sadness in his eyes.
The eyes that had once shone with brightness, the smiles as we had spent nights entangled on his bed talking about galaxies and oceans and our plans to travel the world, together.

He had never been a drinker, preferred sipping sweetened red wine. But that day, he was chugging alcohol.

"Have you moved on?"

"Of course, I have moved on. Why wouldn't I? I don't even think about that person, I don't.....I hope they are....", His words are immediate as if he had been practicing them, waiting for someone to ask and for him to state.

"Anyone would be lucky to have you. You are such a great and lovable person". A voice comes in consolation.

"No, I am not. It is quite hard to like me, much less love me".

Those words leave a bitter taste, and I think about our first meeting, the place we called home, the time we spent together, and then I think about my fiancée whom I am supposed to get married to, and my mother who loathes Tae and the scars hidden beneath his cuffs.
