1864: Caroline grows up alongside Stefan, Damon. As she turns 18, her father pressures her and her adoptive sister, Davina (an orphan from NO), to find husbands. But, all Caroline wants to do is be free, explore the world and meet new people. During the spring of 1864, Katherine and Emily come into town, showing Caroline fun she'll never forget. Along with Katherine and Emily, the Mikaelson siblings come to Mystic Falls due to a message Katherine sent to save herself from them. Drama unfolds as Katherine tries to shield Klaus from Caroline as she finds out he has his eyes on her while Elijah tries to convince Katherine to live out her life with him. Rebekah makes friends with Davina and Caroline, showing them how to be free, independent women. But, an enemy follows the Mikaelsons to Mystic Falls, and the Mikaelsons are forced to flee. But what happens when Caroline wakes up the next morning after getting her heartbroken from Klaus to see that she's a vampire and so is Davina.
