She was adopted, and raised by the tate family, who didn't support her much. She and her half sister, Malia, who shared the same father yet not the same mother, were close.

Paisleys foster mother and sister died in a car crash, causing both malia and paisley to change into coyotes for a while, until two teenage boys brought them back. paisley learned her species, and slowly learned more about herself throughout the story.
