Description
An ordinary woman, Nellie Jo Russell, experiences a devastating loss when her soon-to-be fiancé, Joshua, dies in a car accident with his best friend, Bryan. One year and two months after the tragedy, still in sorrow, Nellie simultaneously unveils two things about herself, she's a talented writer and quite psychic. Following a promotion to staff writer for a small magazine, Journal of Inspiration, Nellie convinces her boss she should compose a story about lives lost too soon, using Hickory Grove Cemetery, the same graveyard where she visits Joshua. Upon this assignment, Nellie grows her second sight by touching ostensibly random headstones, instantly downloading details of the deceased mortals. As her skills build, she wonders why she does not feel Joshua, until an unexpected contact is made by the spirit of the person she blames for Joshua's death, Bryan. Bryan confirms what Nellie has been sensing, Joshua's soul is not around. In an attempt to locate Joshua's whereabouts, the unlikely duo uncovers something sinister. In 1961, the body of an unidentified serial killer, Frederick Lee Nicholas, was buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery. At the time of death, afraid of his spirit's destiny, Frederick devises a plan to rewrite his anticipated fate. Cleverly designing the cemetery as the hereafter by convincing the spirits, at their time of burial, the afterlife doesn't go beyond the cemetery's gates, thus securing his soul's immortality. Unbeknownst to Nellie, her snooping around the cemetery is disrupting Frederick's spiritual stability. As he seeks to protect what he's created, she fears for her safety but her impulse to learn more about her sixth sense and the souls in the graveyard is stronger. What starts as a way for Nellie to unfold her gifts and connect with the love of her life, evolves into an exploration of her own potential.
