Prologue: Spark of Inspiration

I was a "follow-the-crowd" type of kid. I just went with whatever everyone else did. That is, until the day I met him. He was logical, curious, knowledge-seeking. His goals sparked something in me, something I didn't think I would feel or know for a while: inspiration. Years later, something happens to humanity that not even my science-centric friend could answer. Whatever it was, we were gonna figure it out, no matter the stakes. However, when emotions mix with logic, what is truly at stake? Our lives, or our relationships? --- GN = gender-neutral (they/them pronouns)
