The 4 Champions, each one of a different race with a unique ability, had helped the princess seal the Calamity away. There were myths of a 5th Champion but they weren't confirmed.

Decades later, Izuku Yagi learns the full story from his father's letter. Leaving his horrible life, he searches for the descendants of the Champions to defeat the Calamity once and for all.
