Kyotani, a well-known delinquent, meets Hinata one day in 8th grade. No one ever gave him the time of day because of his anger issues.

Just as Hinata has been there for Kyotani, he is there for Hinata during a traumatic experience causing him to go back to America and take Kyotani with him.
