Chapter 1: Onward to Helia

No one remembers who Yorick was before the Ruined King destroyed the Blessed Isles, transforming it into a maelstrom of spirits trapped between death and the Beyond. Even he barely recalls the life he had led before now, hundreds of years knowing only the deranged faces of people he once knew, watching as they lose themselves deeper to the Black Mist. Sometimes in the darkness there he finds bits of himself, clutched in the fists of his spectral allies. A monastery, a bakery, a woman and her smile, stolen kisses, scorned men, forbidden love.
