Chapter 1

It was just a small lie. Okay, more than one and not small, but I was desperate for something - anything! - to do that wasn't working for seventy hours a week at the firm I'd spent ten years building. So, here I am, helping Sarah under a false name and in a profession that isn't mine.

But Sarah is being threatened by her late husband's drug dealer and she needs help. If I tell her the truth now, she'll kick me out, and I don't want to have to sleep in my car outside her flat to make sure she and her young son aren't harmed.

If only I didn't want to kiss her so badly, maybe I could find a way of telling her the truth and still protect them both.
