Alternate history England, set in the late 1800s, the upper-class rule over the lower class and they have steam-powered technology to enforce it.
Elizabeth and her family are the recent winners of the annual lottery where one lower-class family is 'upgraded' to a higher class family, but with an abysmal amount of money given to them, will life really improve for them? And what about the friends that she left behind in the poor areas of London?
As she explores this new place, she stumbles across a plan, that wouldn't just hurt her new friend in this new place, it would be disastrous for the lower class she left behind.
