He walked over to me in hesitance. And in reflex, I stepped back. I couldn't see his expression or reaction because I was looking down at his bloodstained shirt. After a minute, he lifted my chin so I can look at him. "Don't be afraid. You knew, anyway." I did, but I only hoped I was wrong. Actions spoke louder than words, after all.

"Why do you do this?" I asked.

He smirked. "That's a story for another time, Hazel eyes," he said, and I swallowed so hard it hurt. It felt like razors were scratching against my throat. "Let's get you home." he leaned down and kissed my forehead.

The answer was so clear to me I didn't even need to ask him any more questions.
