Chapter 1

Casey Jane was born into Generation A - the first generation of the new world. In this new world climate change isn't a future problem, its a current reality; civic unrest is a regular occurrence; supply disruptions are just how the supply works; wealth is everything, and late-stage capitalism is in full effect.
We meet Casey on her twelfth birthday, on what must be a very normal day for a young Angeleno. As her father says, " [she] stand[s] at the edge of adulthood. Behind [her], the years and lessons of childhood, in front of [her] the whole world... The promise of a whole world [is] layed out before [her] ready to be conquered." But that new world isn't what anyone, except for a few like Casey , is ready for.
