It's been thirteen years since Tyler has seen Mikey for more than just a handful of minutes in a passing visit. A ten year age difference hadn't stopped her crush, not after the fateful day he'd saved her life; he'd been home for Christmas, visiting his sister Val, who's married to Tyler's older brother, Reggie. Val had given birth to their first baby on Thanksgiving, and that Christmas was the first time Mikey was coming home to see him.
