Garnet Properties and Characteristics

Garnets occur in a variety of species and are never found in their pure state, unlike minerals such as beryl or corundum, which are single species with colorful variations created by trace elements. Garnets are classified as a mix or a solid-state series. Some of these blends have different characteristics and are classified as garnet varieties in and of themselves. The identical crystal structure and characteristics distinguish them all as garnets.
