PROLOGUE

After caring for sweet old lady Beatrice Trenton for over a year and hearing all about her brave paratrooper, grandson, Penelope is pleased to finally meet him. Sparks fly and before she knows it, she's calling him her boyfriend, and he is confident he's found the one.

Max sees it as his duty to look after, Derek, his fallen best friend's family. Namely, Maggie, Derek's grief-stricken wife.

Lines are blurred and Penelope is left wondering if their friendship is as innocent as they are making out. Or if they're hiding something from her.

Max is a complex man who's ghosts are determined to chase people away, but Penelope is up for the challenge of fighting them.

And, in doing that, will she lose herself too?
