It had been 4 years since Prince Pico's father died and he had to take over as king. The apple didn't fall far from the tree when His Highness began to rule. This story also involves a young peasant girl named Nene. She never had it easy, having to live in poverty her whole life, then the loss of her mother, not through death, but through abandonment, and betrayal. A middle class man named Jordan took her in and took care of her for a while, they got together, and he gave her herpes. When she argued with him about it, he kicked her out. During the harsh, cold winter is where Nene and Pico meet under unusual circumstances. Pico finds something in Nene that he has never seen in any woman that was ordered to the castle to try out for the position of queen. That something in Nene may just be what revives Pico's humanity...
