Young Otto, a wayward boy with no clear path in life, is stricken by a maiden he meets on the banks of the Rhine. Being no siren, Hannelore entertains him with her girlish charm. Her father, however, despises the lowly boy. In a challenge, he offers his daughter Hannelore to the boy, should he complete one single task: cross the Rhine.
