Libitina Lee having grew up in an abusive home, her father always beating her and her mother, Dabria. Finally at the age of 7, Libitina had had enough and ran away into the secure grasp of Polly Gray.

John Shelby and Libitina Lee had never gotten along. Their false hatred for each other only growing as they grew older that was until 1914 when all men were shipped off the war.
