Stefan and Rebekah met in the 20s in Chicago. When they left, he was compelled to forget them. What no one knows is that Stefan is also being compelled by Mikael. Stefan lives in Mystic Falls, and then the Mikaelsons come to town because of Elena being a doppelgänger. Rebekah sees Stefan, and couldn't believe her eyes. She finds out that Mikael is compelling Stefan to do his bidding, since the 20s.
