Pain is not a stranger to Naruto Uzumaki. For all his life pain was what held him down and brought him back up. He learned from his experiences and mistakes. He grew up, rising to the title of hokage and leader of the 5 nations to fight against a seemingly unstoppable threat. But despite him getting stronger, smarter, and more willing to take chances, the war did not end in glory. He was the last one in a barren planet painted red. So he did the impossible, the unthinkable, and jumped through the very fabric of reality itself and went back to the time everything was normal. When it was easy and his only worries were to become a great ninja and to have food on his plate.
