After getting the courage to confess his feelings to Marinette, after pretending she was just a friend to him for so long, Marinette rejects him, as she fell for Luka.

Adrien gives in to his negative emotions because Marinette was his life and hawk moth takes control. He destroys the world and ruins any chance he may have had at being saved.
