Galina Karimova and Emily Prentiss worked together ages ago, at Interpol. During those roughly two years, Emily and Galina were best described as "colleagues with benefits".

Around the time of Doyle, Galina also went undercover, and when she came out of that mission, Galina quit Interpol and joined the FBI. Just after Emily leaves the BAU, Galina joins, replacing the agent they missed.

When Emily rejoins the BAU after Morgan leaves, she reconnects with Galina, and they hide their blossoming romantic relationship.
