Prologue

Xiao Li is a nobody. Hailing from a small clan of wanderers, she is thrust into the center of an epic tale when she travels, as the sole representative of her clan, to the lectures at Cloud Recesses. There, she collides with Wei Wuxian, the reckless and charismatic adoptee of the Jiang Clan, and Lan Zhan, the stoic and well-mannered younger brother of the Lan Clan leader. But she is in a man's world--and she has a secret to keep. It doesn't get any easier when a fateful night on the roof changes her life forever, leaving her with more questions than answers. As she is thrust into the world of Wei Wuxian, Lan Zhan, and their cohorts, Xiao Li must navigate a treacherous sea full of monsters, men, and her own sense of identity.
