Yachi is the type of person to live vicariously through the lives of book characters, and in that way, she keeps a safe distance from the ups-and-downs of life, never fully taking the time to live hers-her anxiety would never allow her to survive for long even if she did take the reins anyway.

But she cannot remain a passive observer forever, and when the opportunity presents itself for Yachi to ask out her crush, she just might take it upon herself to write herself into the romantic tropes she is so used to reading about.
