After James and Lily Potter are tragically murdered, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black are left with the task of raising and caring for "The Boy Who Lived", Harry Potter. They continue to raise themselves and learn the difference between right and wrong with the child now in their care. As they were left with the option of leaving Harry with the Dursleys, his only living blood relative; to ensure a safer and unknown life away from the magical realm, they declined the offer and started raising him themselves. As for Peter and Voldemort, they've gone into hiding.
