500 MILES "GIDEON, no." I warn him. He clings to me tightly, dipping his head into my hair. He smells weird, is that alcohol? "You're drunk. Again." It seems more like I'm muttering to myself. "I miss you, Maple." Gideon groans. I can't help but feel the vibration of his chest against mine. "No, Gi--Sir, you're drunk. Let me help you." I push him away with my best effort, half dragging him down the stairs and to the couch in the dining. He stumbles a little, but I manage to keep him in put. I dump him on the sofa, and when I'm ready to leave, Gideon pulls me back. Yelping, I land on his lap. "Where do you think you're going, princess?" His breath tickles my spine. For a moment I'm glad that he's drunk, so he won't see me flush. "Maple?" I get caught off guard when he calls me that. No one calls me that anymore, after Joshua left the orphanage. I changed my name, identity, everything that makes me think of him. I'm not Maple Johnson anymore, but why? Why is my boss calling me that? "Who are you?" I breathe. Gideon scoffs, but pulls me even closer, causing my breath to hitch. "It doesn't matter, princess." "No, NO." I push him away from me, ignoring the desire inside of me. I can't let him take advantage when he's drunk. I dust my plain garment and adjust my hair before I turn to go. "Everyday, Maple." Gideon's voice halts my footsteps. "I think of you everyday.
