They meet for the first time when Eddy is thirteen and Brett is fourteen, on a Friday evening. Eddy thinks, naively, that maybe they'll be best friends forever, but Brett becomes a violinist and Eddy doesn't; they've left each other behind, and their careers take them across the world to success and fame, two parallel lines always moving forward but never meeting.
