Laying The Foundation

Ah humanity, so creative and destructive, so much so that mother nature sought to knock the entire human race down a few thousand pegs and force everyone to go underground. Twelve thousand and something years later humanity decides to emerge again and meet the new neighbours no one knew existed, does it sound like fiction ?, It does.
