23 year old Tris Prior lost her mother in a tragic accident.

She feels alone and out of place in the big city of Chicago.

She decides to leave all of her memories behind except for one.

The memory of a man comforting her during her loss.

The only thing she knows is that she needs him and he needs her.

So she leaves the big city to the small city of Portland.
