"You cannot run from me forever, Violet," he whispered against my neck. A small shiver racked my spine from the feeling of his warm breath against my skin. "I can try," I replied shakily. My voice lacked any confidence, we both knew that. He was an Alpha. He'd found me before, he found me now, and he will find me in the future. I was beginning to see that there was nothing I could do that would keep him from finding me. I felt his lips press against my neck and his arms became the only thing to hold me up as my legs became jelly. A low moan sounded in the back of my throat and he lifted his head to look at me. "Would it be so bad?" he whispered, pained. "Would it be so bad to be with me?" I couldn't look at the hurt in his eyes and know that it was there because of me. How could I make him see? How could I tell him that I could never be with him? That he deserved better? "You don't understand," was all I could say. He was so, so close. Close enough that if either of us moved we would be kissing. And yet he'd never felt so far away.
